President Paxson Makes First Trip to UK
On Tuesday, June 18, President Christina H. Paxson made her first public appearance in the UK. She received a warm welcome from nearly 150 Brown alumni, students, parents, and friends at an event hosted by Jeffrey Greenbaum ’81 at his firm’s London law offices, Hogan Lovells International. From the 12th floor of the Atlantic House, attendees took in sweeping views of the city and St. Paul’s Cathedral below.
The program included remarks from Brown Alumni Association President George Billings ’72, recent graduate and 2013 Track and Field Captain Kenneth Thompson ’13, and Brown Club of the UK President Luke Balleny ’06. During the program, President Paxson invited questions and, as always, the Brown community obliged. Guests dined from a Rhode Island-themed menu, which included "V. Dub." beef tartare cone, "Ratty" jonnycakes, and Del’s Frozen Lemonade.
President Paxson also welcomed members of Brown’s Track and Field program to the event. Twenty-seven student-athletes and three coaches were in London as part of a 13-day tour of Ireland and England to train and compete at St. Mary’s University College and the University of Limerick.
At the close of the event, members of the Brown Club of the UK presented the President with a special gift, a book of London history.
