A Tribute to President Ruth J. Simmons
[ Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, NYC ]
On Wednesday, February 22, 2012 members of the Brown University alumni of color community came together to honor President Ruth J. Simmons at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City. The event, co-sponsored by Brown’s Inman Page Black Alumni Council (IPC) and The Alumni of Color Initiative (AOCI), was a wonderful way for alumni of color spanning generations to come together in celebration of President Simmons. Leaders from the IPC community delivered remarks highlighting the President’s distinguished decade of service to Brown, which included the creation of the Department of Africana Studies, and spoke to the importance of institutionalizing this achievement and honoring her legacy by fully establishing The Ruth J. Simmons Africana Studies Endowed Fund.
